Wines of Australia - Silver Wings - Single Vineyard Wines
Rounding out our Australian lineup, don't miss Silver Wings, which Winemaker Keith Brien affectionalty calls his "5th child" (as it demands at least as much attention), this is an old vine Shiraz / Mourvedre blend from Central Victoria that will dazzle your taste buds and also cellar delightfully for years! In pursuit of our winemaker, Keith Brien's, passion for making long- lived Single Estate wine, he established his own label ‘Silver Wings Wines’ highlighting a wine of Mourvedre and Shiraz fruit grown on 50 year old vines in the Shepparton region of Central Victoria. The estate and wine is named after Vincenzo Conte, who immigrated to Australia in 1952. He originally planted the first vineyard and many years later was subsequently killed in a road accident delivering his fruit to the markets. Keith’s privilege is to work with Vincenzo Conte’s old vines to produce outstanding quality wine in his memory, continuing his proud family name. "I believe through expression of soil and fruit concentration from this site, the “Vincenzo Old Vines” will become recognized as one of the great wines of Australia!" states winmaker Keith Brien! The vineyard consists of plantings of approximately 60% Mourvedre and the balance Shiraz from the early 1960's. Don't be afraid to put this one down in your cellar for a couple years! |
