Marquee selected two classic varietals to start our Lake County Classy series of wines with; Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel. Marquee proudly presents our first wines from the USA, the 2006 Classy Sauvignon Blanc and 2006 Classy Zinfandel to showcase the unique and elegant wine styles available from small production batches in California. In search of "true class" we staked our flag directly into the heart of Lake County, California for these two wonderful monovarietal bottlings.

Where is Lake County and why choose this region for winemaking you may ask? Lake County is located just north of the San Francisco Bay area and was formed in 1861 from parts of both Napa County and Medicino County. The history of Lake County dates back to the 1870's when the first vineyards were planted in this area that soon became known for its great vineyard locations and intensely flavored wines. Unfortunately, as prohibition halted winemaking in the 1920's most of these great vineyards were ripped out to make room for walnut and pear farms. With the change in the agricultural landscape, it wasn't until the 1960's when Lake County re-emerged on the vineyard scene; winemaking has since seen the development of the Lake County, High Valley, Red Hills, & Clear Lake AVAs in this rich and fertile land.

Marquee selected two classic varietals to start our Lake County Classy series of wines with; Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel. With vineyard locations that are very near to the largest "natural lake" wholly within the state of California, Clear Lake, the lake has a moderating effect on the climate and vineyards range from alluvial soils near the dormant volcano Mount Konocti to more moderate elevations around 2000 ft. above sea level. This allowance for warm days and nighttime temperatures that drop significantly allow the grapes to ripen at optimum rates for moderate sugars and sufficient acidity (hallmarks to great Sav. Blanc and Zinfandel). From our sophisticated and fashionable labeling, to our modern "jet black" stelvin screw caps on Classy, you can be sure that the juice inside is fit to match with your next stylish occasion!
